SEESTAR S50 SMARTSCOPE - Solar System
Stargazing Single Frames, Stargazing Wider Fields and Mosaics, Scenery
All my images on this webpage have been reduced from original size.
It takes great images of the Sun and Moon but is not well suited for detailed planetary imaging because of the relatively short focal length of only 250mm but it will show Jupiter and its main moons, you can just make out the belts.

Not bad on comets though.

Comet 2024 G3 (ATLAS) became a headless comet.

Comet 2025 R2 (SWAN)... and Comet 2025 K1 (ATLAS)

Comet 2025 R3 (PANSTARRS) on
2026 May 5.
5 fields merged together to show the tail about 4.5 degrees long, just
running into the "Witches Head" Nebula.

Also imaged with a 100mm F4 lens
on a Canon 6D to give a wider field of view.
After a long run of bad weather
here, I finally got a clear night on 24th August 2025. I had taken a few
shots trying to get the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS with the Seestar but
must have had the wrong field.
I downloaded a new ephemeris from JPL Horizons App. and picked it up
straight away just moving into Libra.

This little sequence has a 5 mins exposure, 30 mins showing the comet
trailing and another 5 mins to finish.

I imaged the comet again in the
morning sky on September 26th 2025, a layer of cloud obscured it for a
while and the sky brightened when it cleared, so not ideal conditions.
The next morning (27th) was great weather.
The comet noticeably brighter now. Star at lower right is Zaniah in
Virgo.
Image is 7 x 5 minute exposures stacked on the comet.
Animation from E.A.S.T. 03:56 to 04:42 - 5 min exps
In June 2026 Periodic comet 220 McNaught had a big flare up, going from
a predicted 18th magnitude to 8.4, that's several thousand times
brighter. Only a handful of comets have brightened in this manner.
