RCW 38 in Vela
Image Info
Imaged on
20140105 with 31.5 cm f/5 Newtonian Reflector and GSTAR-EX video camera
6 sector mosaic (2w x 3h) Planned with Asimoplan
200 video frames each sector with no filter
Object Info
Faint Emission nebula complex. Part of the large Gum nebula. AKA Gum 23.

When blending the lo-res
colour image taken in 1989 with the hi-res GSTAR image taken in 2007
(previous 2 field mosaic), I noticed a particular star near the centre
had moved significantly. Rob McNaught tracked down the information for
me and identified it as high
proper motion star, LHS 2085 (that is star 2085 in Luyten's proper
motion catalogue). It moves at 0.847"/yr in PA 323.6.
Tycho catalogue gives magnitude 11.8V.
Revised Luyten (Bakos 2002) gives 0.70"/yr PA 327.94 12.8R, 14.3B
So in 25 years (1989-2014), it has moved 17.5".
The greater sensitivity of the camera in the later image shows many more faint stars.

Blended
with my lo-res colour print taken in 1989 on Hypered Kodak 400 iso film
through 25 cm f/5.8 reflector.
