  Meteor Showers

I did a little experiment of stacking all the meteors from a busy night onto one frame.
A total of 70 meteors from 09:56 to 19:30 UT on 17th Apr 2004
Magnitudes ranged from +2.1 up to -2.7
There were 65 Sporadics, 5 Scorpio-Sagittarids, 1 Lyrid and 1 pi-Puppid.

Eta Aquarid Combo 1 Another little experiment,
I stacked all the Eta Aquarids from 16:46 to19:30 UT on 2nd May 2004.
They don't all point to the same spot because the camera is fixed
and the radian drifted.
It is curious that there are more meteors in one half of the field.
I'll do some more on other nights to see if it is just a fluke.

These were the Eta Aquarids between 16:23 and 19:23UT on 3rd May 2004 Eta Aquarid Combo 2

Eta Aquarid Combo 3 These were the Eta Aquarids between 16:07 and 19:25UT on 5th May 2004

A plethora of big and bright

From 28th March to 23rd June 2004 a total of 3,245 meteors were recorded
on 63 nights. 25 nights were not observed during this period.
These are 35 of the biggest and brightest of those and range
from  -0.8 to -3.8 magnitude.

2005 Southern Delta Aquarids

I patched together 73 Southern Delta Aquarid meteors from 11:26 to 19:09 UT on 30th July 2005. Each meteor was identified from the log file and adjusted so it pointed back to the radian of the shower. The star fields are not correct due to the edge distortion of the wide angle lens used on the CCD video camera and 4 different frames stitched together.

This one has all the Southern Delta Aquarid meteors from
27th July to 2nd August 2005, 337 in total.

2006 Orionids

This combination image shows about 240 Orionid meteors recorded on the 21, 22 and 23 of October 2006. An observer near my location (John Vetter, Mudgee Observatory) reported that on the 23rd a large meteor left a train that remained visible for 25 minutes.

The Pleiades can just be seen right of centre, the Hyades further above right and Betelguese, the brightest star in the top right corner.
The shower radiant is between Betelguese and Gamma Geminorum (out of field).
These meteors are from the debris left in Comet Halley's orbit.

2007 Orionids

This combination image shows 192 Orionid meteors recorded on the 16th to the 23rd of October 2007. Not quite as good as last year but pretty good. Cloudy weather from 24th on.

2007 Geminids

This combination image shows 120 Geminid meteors recorded on the 13th and 14th of December 2007.
