  Image Info

Proxima Centauri is the closest star to our solar system at 4.27 light years.
It is a type dM5e dwarf star and is quite a dim object at magnitude 10.7 .
It has a proper motion across the sky of 3.85 arc seconds per year.
Over 20 years it has moved 77 arc seconds across the sky.
Each image in the animation is a 12X enlargement from the original negative.

This image was taken with GSTAR-EX video camera on 19 May 2006. Through the 31.5cm f/4.5 it reveals much fainter stars in the background with only 2 minutes of integration.
